The Union Cabinet has decided to increase the salaries of 7.58 lakh university, college teachers and equivalent academic staff in the country due to the Seventh Pay Commission Cabinet’s recommendations. Teachers of Central Universities, State Universities and Aided Colleges under UGC and Centrally Educational Teaching Institute will receive more salaries with retirement benefits from January 1, 2017. The central government will have an additional financial liability of Rs 9,800 crore. This does not necessarily mean that there is a special mechanism for determining the wage increases in the unsecured sector. The Salary rise has been implemented in 12,912 Universities/ Colleges.
∙ 22-28% hike in Salary .
With the new salary scale being set up, the monthly salary increase will be between Rs 10,400 and Rs 49,800. The starting salary of each of the posts has increased from 22% to 28%.
